6. If the size is very small, then also due to complex work in that small size, the price may go up.
7. The artist and material cost is different in different places.
8. The provider of these paintings may be a very renowned one, and may ask some extra for his royalty and name in the market.

And to my appreciation, I found that the Tanjore Paintings and arts are very much sought in cities like Chennai, Madurai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Erode, Calcutta, Vishakapatnam, Delhi etc. I also found that in smaller cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, Indore, Puri, Bhopal, Surat, etc. there were people who want to learn this art.

I checked with almost all of my relatives in different cities about their knowledge of this art, and their willingness to learn it. The answer was very positive. It is good to see that Indian culture is appreciated among Indians. I don't know about foreigners, but still believe that, they will also adore it, if they come in touch with it.

Theme of Tanjore Paintings

The Tanjore paintings are from an era, when the culture of Indian paintings was very rich. The paintings normally consist scriptures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. This can be attributed to the fact that, these paintings came in the time of Nayaks, and were later continued and supported by the rulers of various dynasties. This has helped this art to be alive till date, and has helped a very precious Indian art intact.

 

Paintings of Gods and Goddesses like Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Parvati could be found among them. Though as teh art has flourished, paintings of other Gods and other things have also been made. But still till date, the major area of interest are the Gods.
  

   

The major paintings are of Lord Krishna, and his childhood pranks. Those pranks normally called Ras Leela in local language, has been a common recurring theme for the Tanjore Paintings. Hi, in this article I will be discussing about the materials that are required to make Tanjore Paintings. The materials used are available easily, and is therefore very easy to start. The process of making this painting is a hard one, and this will surely require some efforts from the individual.

1. White cloth
2. Wooden base or plywood
3. Chalk powder or zinc oxide
4. Fevicol
5. To make the base smoother, a mild abrasive is sometimes used, Sand Paper (emery sheet) is normally used for this purpose.
6. Jaipur stones for decoration

Birth of Tanjore Painting

Tanjore Paintings show a very beautiful composition of elegance and hard work together. Often have I wondered about the history behind this wonderful art. Scanning on the net and discussing with some of my Indian culture loving friends, helped me in coming out with this article on the origin of the Tanjore Painting. I thought it would be better to document it here, then to search it again later.
 

Tanjore painting which are called Thanjavur Oviyam in Tamil and also known as palagai padam in local language, is a precious gem of the South Indian painting styles. It holds it's origin to the town of Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. You might notice the similarity between the town name and the paintings name. Yes it is true that the actual name was Thanjavur, but was letter known as Tanjore.

 

This art has its roots dug deep into history, and is not a new one. It depicts the Indian culture and heritage and has evidences since 1600 AD. This period was of the Nayakas, who were ruling the town of Thanjavur at that time.

 

It was due to their support and encouragement for this painting and other forms of art like dance, music etc., that the culture and heritage of Thanjavur got so rich. One of the prominent emerging part of this encouragement was the Tanjore Paintings.

Hello and welcome to Tanjore Painting Blogspot. This is my first article on this blog, so I will start by introducing myself. My name is Amit, I am a programmer by profession. My hobbies include studying Indian culture, finding the less known facts about our nation, and to make a centralized repository where I can place all these information.
