Theme of Tanjore Paintings

The Tanjore paintings are from an era, when the culture of Indian paintings was very rich. The paintings normally consist scriptures of Hindu Gods and Goddesses. This can be attributed to the fact that, these paintings came in the time of Nayaks, and were later continued and supported by the rulers of various dynasties. This has helped this art to be alive till date, and has helped a very precious Indian art intact.
 
Paintings of Gods and Goddesses like Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Parvati could be found among them. Though as teh art has flourished, paintings of other Gods and other things have also been made. But still till date, the major area of interest are the Gods.
  
   
The major paintings are of Lord Krishna, and his childhood pranks. Those pranks normally called Ras Leela in local language, has been a common recurring theme for the Tanjore Paintings. The paintings show a great affection to these Gods, and show the strength of Indian Culture. The Tanjore images are normally of Gods and Goddesses, and the figures in these paintings is usually large, with the faces round and divine.
  
As the growth of this form of painting, now the faces of Gods are no longer large and round. But has changed according to the local belief and vision of the people. Later more deities of various other Gods has also be depicted in these paintings.
 
The thing that is of importance today is the style and method of these paintings. This is attracting various people all over India to learn this style and make their own paintings. It is rich Indian style and must be preserved by the people.
